It has always been a passion of mine to teach and train an individual to become a professional truck driver. I have added to our staff, former truck drivers from all walks of this industry. Together we have over 100 years of experience to share with our students. We are now accepting three (3) students per class; we have two (2) trucks and two (2) instructors.

It was pointed out to me, the other day that we are not only a one-to-one ratio tractor / trailer driving school but we are more a “mentorship” program.

Our mission statement;

 “We don’t succeed until you do” This is a fact!

We have had students in our school from all over the world.

I’d like to mention a student from Vietnam who came here with his wife and two boys. They bought a Laundromat to support themselves, it didn’t generate enough money so T.N. decided he wanted to become a truck driver, made a $4500.00 – 3 week investment and got his CDL and a job as soon as he graduated. He started out going to work for May Trucking out of Idaho and that was 3 years ago. Today he is still with May Trucking and making a good living for his family about ($70,000) (2011 taxes) annually. He runs hard, not home much. Average driver can expect about $50,000 a year.

Another student turned 50 years old while attending school here and his “dream” was to become a professional truck driver and run the Ice Roads in Canada and Alaska. This fellow lived in Alaska and his Dad lived in Washington. His Dad took a turn for the worse (cancer) and he needed to be placed in a nursing home. Bill called me and talked about going to school here, as he had found my web site on the Internet, and loved  our 1-on-1 training. During our conversation he mentioned he had to find a place for his Dad to live out his last few months. I told him of a place here in Ft. Collins that would be perfect for him and Bill could go to school and get his CDL. Bill did just that, came to school at N.C.T.D.A., got his Class “A” CDL, went to work for May Trucking only to have his Dad pass after being with May for only 3 months. So he took a vacation back to Fairbanks, Alaska and stepped across Carlyle Transportation’s carpet, asked for a “road test” and was hired on the spot. Bill called me in February and say’s “I’m living my dream”. He is driving for Carlyle, running the “Ice Roads” (literally driving across frozen lakes and rivers) in Canada making $1000.00 a day. He is one” happy camper”.

Not everyone wants to be a “Ice Road” trucker or O.T.R. (Over The Road) driver, but to be perfectly honest, this is most likely where you will need to start in this profession (O.T.R. that is, unless you want to move to Fairbanks?). Once you have proven yourself with a year of O.T.R. and the school under your belt, you can look for a local job and are home most nights or at least not gone for a week or two or three at a time.

Rest assured, you are in good hands here at Northern Colorado Truck Driving Academy. We do not accept every potential student who interviews for attendance. This occupation requires certain discipline’s not found in all people.

We take great pride in developing excellent drivers who can proudly show an employer their abilities and are given the opportunity to hone their skills and become “Professional Truck Drivers”.
